Please join the EAD / CFAH Performance Coaching Team — Jim, Karen, Becky, Kristen, Alida, Ashley & Mike — as we welcome three new members. Kate Konkel and Scott Mezzano have been named Performance Coaches, and Jason Garrett has been invited to join the EAD / CFAH Performance Coach Development Program.
A former gymnast, softball player and competitive cheerleader, Kate Konkel currently holds several spots on the EAD / CFAH Wall of Fame for outstanding athletic performance. Just this weekend, she finished third at the 2013 Mid-American Weightlifting Championships. In addition to competing, Kate also coached cheerleading for many years. A popular teacher at a local high school — and if you spend any length of time with Kate, you’ll quickly discover why — she holds a B.S., Biological Sciences; M.S., Curriculum and Instruction; M.S., Administrative Leadership; and ELL Certification; her National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification is pending. Kate credits her training at EAD / CFAH with “reawakening” her inner athlete, and looks forward to contributing to the development of EAD / CFAH athletes.
Scott Mezzano has his B.S., Exercise Science and M.S., Exercise Science. He holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), American Council of Sports Medicine (Certified Health Fitness Specialist), and USA Weightlifting (Level 1 Sports Performance Coach); and is a member of the American Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation. Scott is a Fitness Specialist / Strength Coach at McHenry County College, where he is also a Health & Fitness Education Adjunct Instructor. Scott is a competitive powerlifter, cyclist and rower, and is eager to help EAD / CFAH athletes increase strength and power.
Jason Garrett is a pre-med student with course emphasis on nutrition science, and he recently earned his EMT license; his CrossFit Level 1 certification is pending. Jason is a tough and versatile athlete, and along with his partner, EAD / CFAH athlete Jessica R, finished 7th at the Tandem Throwdown … after meeting the morning of the competition for the very first time.
